It created quite a stir, but, in the end, there was no denying that it was right- as much as we women would love to use ‘common sense’ (whatever that is) and tell ourselves that most men aren’t going to hurt us, the dangers of encountering one that does are far too great. After all, considering that rape is a reality and that rapists get away far too easily, how can we afford to let our guard down and ‘be friendly’ when that could lead to our undoing? Even if 0.01% of men are rapists, does any of us want to take the risk of unwittingly bumping into that 0.01%? Unfortunately, in those six years since that post, we have not seen much of an improvement. The patriarchy continues to belittle us, te
